Book Two in The Wake Series

by M. Mabie

Releasing Early 2015

Synopsis:

This isn’t just a two-year long one-night stand. It’s my life.

This is my life. Our life. It isn’t just some careless affair.

I’ve made the worst decisions a woman could, but I’ll earn my second chance.

She can try keeping all the guilt for herself, but I’m just as much to blame.

Loving Casey wasn’t my biggest mistake. Fighting it for so long was.

I’ll show her how fearless our love makes me. I’ll protect her torn heart.

He still has magic in his eyes. He’s the man who makes me happy.

Her voice still brings me to my knees. She says my name like it’s sacred.

I live for the day when I’m his. To take care of him. To love him the way he deserves.

I can’t wait to be all she needs. I can give her a happy life, security and so much love.

Sometimes two ships never meet in the night, but ours did.

Sometimes the water is rough. It beats you all to hell until you have no choice but get stronger.

Our love story reads more like a tragedy, but to me it’s clean and pure.

Let them point their fingers. Without a love like ours, they haven’t really lived. I pity them.

I’m a cheating wife and a villain. I am his honeybee.

I’m a snake in the grass and I sleep best when I’m lying next to his wife.

I want to be his everything.

  I’m nothing without her anyway.

This isn’t even close to over.

  It’ll never be over.

Delivered {A Christmas Novella} {Book Review}

Title: Delivered {A Christmas Novella}

Author: Laura Dunaway

Genre: Contemporary Romance, New Adult

Book Description:

Pregnant and widowed, Andi Porter is still reeling from the loss of her husband. When she finds herself in labor and stranded in a snowstorm, it seems like her timing couldn't be worse.
Doctor Jase Rollins is a well respected doctor who has a knack for being right where he needs to be. When his right place collides with Andi's wrong time, an unlikely and unexpected connection is made that neither can ignore.
This Christmas may deliver the best gift of all … a second chance for the woman who lost it all and the man who wants to give her everything.

My Review:

This is the second book I have been able to read by Laura Dunaway. When I got the email asking to help with the cover reveal and a chance to read this novella, I jumped on it. I think like a lot of people at this time of year I just want to read a feel good book. Whether it has to do with the holiday or not. But of course as it gets closer to Christmas this year, I have found that I have wanted to read more Christmas-y themed books.

I have to say that novella is a fast paced and touching read. Make sure you have some tissues when your reading this. Laura grabs your attention right from the beginning when Andi finds out she has lost her husband. Throughout the whole story I really felt for Andi and how Laura wrote her character. There were a couple of times that I was also worried about Andi.

I loved Dr. Jase Rollins right away. He's one of those character's that you just like or love right away. You could tell he was sweet and caring right away.

One of the things that I liked about this book and was kind of refreashing is that even though Andi and Jase have an instant attraction to one another. Is that they didn't just jump into insta-relationship. I liked that they were just friends throughout this and that Jase didn't push Andi any faster. Though by the end I'm glad that Andi and Jase got their HEA.

I give this story 4 out of 5 Stars and would recommend this book to anyone who wants a quick and sweet read.

The Charlotte Chronicles (Jackson Boys Book 1) {Book Review}

Title: The Charlotte Chronicles (The Jackson Boys Book 1)

Author: Jen Frederick

Genre:

Book Description:

Charlotte and Nathan were supposed to be forever. They grew up together. Their families were intertwined. Charlotte was Nathan's first love. Nathan was Charlotte's first everything.

Until they weren't.

How do you hold on to the person you know in your heart you are supposed to be with when everything and everyone in the universe is telling you it's over?

How many times does a heart break?
When is enough…..enough?
How long is forever?

My Review:

I always enjoy being able to read author Jen Fredericks books. Especially after the Kerr Chronicles. This is the fifth book that I have read by Mrs. Fredericks and I absolutely love her writing and has become a hit with me. Now I don't want to go on a total ramble so I will go on with my review of The Charlotte Chronicles.

This book is a stand alone, however, if you have read the Woodland series you will encounter the previous characters from the series. Nathan and Charlotte the main characters of The Charlotte Chronicles are the children of Noah and Grace and Beau and Anne Marie. I love it when an author goes and continues a series with the children of other books I love. Its nice to see some of those characters from the first books come back sometimes.  I first got a taste about them when I read the epilogue of the Woodland series. I could tell that their story was going to be about an alpha, jealous male so totally heels in love with his beautiful childhood friend.

Nathan and Charlie are a love onto themselves. This book is divided into two parts, their teenage years and their lives as adults. During the first part of the book the book is sweet, romantic, heart-wrenching and filled with teenage angst. I loved the fact the characters were fleshed out and so likeable.

The second part of the Chronicles is almost like a second chance love story. The characters are now in their 20's and they reunite after being apart for some time. Of course this wouldn't be a great Jen Frederick without the hot and steamy parts of the the book. Wait no it would still be an awesome book with out all that.

I give this book 4.5 Stars Out of 5 and would recommend it. I can't wait for what comes next!!!!

You can now purchase The Charlotte Chronicles on Amazon , Kobo, Google Play, B & N, and also on iBooks .

Sublime Wreckage {Book Review}

Title: Sublime Wreckage

Author: Charlene Zapata

Genre: New Adult

Book Description:

After suffering a tragic accident as a child, Maggie Wilson has tried her whole life to regain the happiness she lost. She has been in survival mode ever since, dealing with a mentally unstable parent, having no one to turn to for help. Her desire to escape to a better future fuels her motivation and keeps her focused on what really matters, breaking free of the hell she lives in.

Things at home are complicated and it’s easier to push people away than allow them to get too close. She doesn’t let anyone into her life except her best friend Amanda. Maggie has perfected keeping secrets, maintaining her GPA and staying out of relationships. All her energy is put into her school work so that when she graduates she can leave for college and forget her past.

All of that changes when she meets Vincent Moreno. His reputation precedes him but she quickly discovers there is so much more to him than what you see on the surface. He manages to wiggle his way into her life despite her efforts to keep him at a distance. As Maggie starts to open up she realizes how much she needs someone like Vince in her life. They form a connection like no other and it has her reconsidering everything.

My Review:

I thought that this book Sublime Wreckage was a beautiful and heartbreaking read. The author Charlene Zapata pulled many different  feelings in this book.  It made me laugh, cry, and smile.

Maggie Wilson is not your typical teenager, she has been though and seen way to much at such a young age, yet her passion for life is still so strong. I thought that  Charlene Zapata did a wonderful  job writing this Maggie's character. Though there were times that I definitely wanted to shake her.

Vincent Moreno is the perfect guy, well at least to me he was.  I really enjoyed the relationship between Maggie and Vince in this book. I love that they were friends first and that they really worked on their friendship instead of just going into a  relationship with each other. I thought it  made the story that much more beautiful and  more believable.

I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to see where these characters go and how they mature. I can't wait to read the next one. Though for me it will have to wait until the beginning of the next year to read the next book. I give this book 4 Out of 5 Stars and would definitely recommend it!!!

Infinite Fear (Scared SeriesNovella) {Book Review}

Title: Infinite Fear (Scared Series Novella)

Author: Jacqueline Abrahams

Genre: New Adult

Book Description:

Spending his days drunk and his nights high, priding himself on his perfection of the one night stand, Jackson Jones has hit rock bottom. He is caught in a vicious cycle, spiraling downwards, at war with a formidable opponent: himself.

Life for Jackson wasn't always like this. At eighteen, he thought he had it all: a beautiful girlfriend who he loved, good friends, and even better grades that would help him get into any college he chose. But one event changed everything, and now his bright future has all but disappeared completely.

With some help from an old friend and a sexy, mysterious woman, will Jackson be able to find the closure he needs to move on from his past and reclaim his future? Can he shut his demons out, for good? Or will he remain stuck in a cycle of Infinite Fear?

My Review:

This is the first book that I have read from this author and the first book in the Scared Series. The author Jacqueline Abrahams takes a different approach in writing this novella for the start of this series. And writes it in the lead male character Jackson's POV, instead of writing it in a female POV. Which was refreshing change for once in a story.

This book starts off kind of sad and I feel for Jackson, I really do. The author really brings out the emotions that Jackson is feeling in this book. It also showed that Jackson was not from the right side of the tracks and probably lived a life harder than most had.

There were a couple of downsides to this story though I kind of felt like I was missing some back story. I felt like that even though this was a novella and the author was trying to introduce us, and let us get to know Jackson's character. That there was just something missing a little bit. Like the story started jumping into another story, oh boy I'm not explaining that well enough. I mean obviously there's a lot to these character's backgrounds. Though throughout the story we did get some answers to some of the things in this story.

I would give this story 4 Out of 5 Stars just cause I like this series and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys the New Adult genre.

Scared of Beautiful (Scared Series) {Book Review}

Title: Scared of Beautiful (Scared Series)

Author: Jacqueline Abrahams

Genre: New Adult

Book Description:

Maia wants to be free. Free from the social obligations, free from the money, free from the control that her privileged upbringing has taken from her life. And at college, she wants to be unseen, unheard, unnoticed.

Jackson's life has been less than perfect since his high school girlfriend took the back door out of his life, permanently. After years of subscribing to an existence of less than gentlemanly behaviour, he decides to man up and go to college, promising to be done with random hook ups and female drama.

They had it all worked out, each one had a plan.

At least they did...until they met.

Together they run from everything; from life, from happiness, from each other. They are two people both so scared; of heartbreak, of repeating past mistakes, of trusting someone else. Two people simply scared of beautiful...

My Review:

This was the second book that I have read by this author. I thought that Maia was a likable character. She comes from a life of privilege in which money has never been a concern. Unfortunately that life has come at the price of having to live with a father who abuses her mother and really wants to have little to do with her. She’s left her parents Manhattan home, with money of her own due to an inheritance from her grandparents. I think  she is a independent woman, able to live a life free of the things that have restrained her for so long.

We get to see Jackson again in this story, it starts off a year after we left him in Infinite Fear. Where he seems to have turned his life around. He is friends with some unsavory characters that just don’t seem to understand that his acceptance to Brown is a chance at a new life. He does show up at Brown though with a large chip on his shoulder.

While I have seen this storyline time and time again, I think that the author Jacqueline Abrahams  puts a different spin on it, making the storyline fresh and engaging. The secrets that both Maia and Jackson are keeping make for some interesting plot turns that will keep you interested.

I found that Scared of Beautiful is an emotional journey of finding oneself and finding love along the way. Despite their differences, mostly socio-economic, Jackson and Maia are able to shrug off the societal mores that are expected of them. This is a quick, easy read that fans of New Adult.

I would give this story 4 Out of 5 Stars and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading the New Adult genre.

Scared of Forever (Scared Series) {Book Review}

Title: Scared of Forever (Scared Series)

Author: Jacqueline Abrahams

Genre: New Adult

Book Description:

Every lie, no matter how small, has some degree of truth.

Five months after moving to New York City, Emily is engaged to Blake Carson, future doctor and the man who she believes to be the love of her life. Until she starts to realize that the foundation upon which she’s building her future is based on a series of Blake’s self-serving lies.

Blake can’t let her go. He can’t continue to deceive Emily, either. But Blake’s biggest problem is that he has to maintain the life he has become accustomed to, at any cost. And that means keeping his overbearing mother happy, and keeping Emily ignorant.

Tyler Carson left New York City two years ago, happy to leave behind all of the Carson family drama. Until he comes home and meets Emily. Falling in love with his brother’s fiancée was easy. Protecting her from his family was necessary. Leaving her was almost impossible, knowing that he was breaking her heart, and his own.

Finding solace in her friendship with Tyler, Emily is forced to face the reality that Blake is not the man she thought he was. But neither is Tyler, the friend who gave her the clarity she needed, and then left her alone to pick up the shattered pieces of her life. Heartbroken and deserted, Emily has had enough of the Carson brothers.

But sometimes, love is not that which sends us soaring, but that which keeps us grounded. Can Emily ever bring herself to love another Carson completely?

Secrets, lies and lust-filled nights, all in the name of the screwed-up pursuit of happily ever after, Scared of Forever is the second novel in the Scared Series, which features characters from Scared of Beautiful, but can be read as a standalone

My Review:

I thought Emily was the kind of girl who just needed to get away from everything she known,  and been through. So Emily packed up and left for the Big Apple. What she didn’t expect, was that life in New York wasn’t what it was all made up to be, until she met Blake.

I thought that Blake was your typical high profile socialite, a guy any girl would dream of. He is handsome and a doctor.  With the lifestyle Blake has been living, is the type where he got anything he wanted, especially women. But behind the limelight, Blake was possessive and pressured by the demands of his mother and in order to continue to live his lavish lifestyle, he must appease her demands.

I think that Scared of Forever, is probably the best in the Scared Series so far. The author has written a heartfelt, compelling romance novel, that will give you goose bumps and make you wanting more. I think that the  characters were very relatable.

I give this book 4 Out of 5 Stars and  would recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading new adult romance novels, it’s an easy read and you definitely will not be disappointed! I can’t wait for the next book!

Emily

Tyler offers me an absolutely angelic and innocent smile. His warm eyes silently attest to the sincerity of his words as he eyes me expectantly. He walks over to the passenger side of the Jeep and opens the door with exaggerated grandeur, sweeping a hand across his midline elegantly.

“That’s a bit of a lost art,” I say as I climb up the high step into the seat, thankful that I’d opted for ballet flats and jeans.

“What is?” Tyler asks as he hops into the driver’s seat.

“Gentlemanly behavior. Chivalry. I don’t know when, if ever, anybody has opened my door for me,” I say, slightly ashamed that as a woman, I hadn’t demanded better treatment.

“Well, strap yourself in, princess. Today is gonna be a day of amazing first times.” Tyler shoots me a cheeky grin, before turning the key in the ignition.

“Is it too late to change my mind?” I laugh, playfully grabbing for the door handle.

“Yup. You’re now my willing prisoner,” he says solemnly before taking off.

Tyler drives us carefully out of the city. The rain clouds that had opened up above the city seem to be moving in the opposite direction now. The further away we drive, the clearer the sky becomes, the ratio of blue to grey skewing more as the road widens from narrow city streets to open country roads.

“Where are we going?” I ask. The drive seems to be infinite.

“Do you trust me?” Tyler asks.

“Should I? I barely even know you.”

“Trusting the people you know can sometimes be even worse than trusting the ones you don’t,” Tyler says quietly.

“What does that mean?” I ask nervously. Does he mean Blake? Eliza?

“Forget it,” Tyler says.

“I don’t particularly want to ruin the day by talking about all that heavy shit. We’re nearly there.”

“Why are you being so nice to someone you barely know?” I ask, looking towards Tyler, who is focusing intently on the road ahead.

“Do I need a reason to be a nice guy?” He shoots me with a charming smile. His brow furrows as he averts his eyes back to the road.

“You can tell me if you’re uncomfortable with any of this. We can go straight back. I’d understand, I mean, you haven’t known me all that long.”

“Not at all,” I say sincerely.

Fact is, I feel more comfortable and safer in Tyler’s company than I did with Blake last night. I roll the window down and inhale the salty ocean air that wafts in. Leaning forward to look past Tyler, I see, between the tall oak trees that flank the road, the vast, sapphire blue sea. The sun has even decided to make an appearance from beyond the grey, ominous clouds.

“Wow,” I breathe.

“Welcome to the Hamptons,” Tyler says jovially.

“I thought you hated all things high society, and you decide to bring me to the summer playground of New York’s rich and famous?” I question, confused.

“We’re not going to hang out with the rich and famous. Besides, it isn’t society season. The only people here now are those who actually live here,” he explains. We continue to drive, beyond the sprawling mansions with their impossibly green lawns, perfectly manicured and lined with tall evergreen fir trees.

“That’s Eliza’s summer house,” Tyler says, pointing to a majestic stone mansion nestled between two long stretches of sand, and backing directly onto the white sandy beach.

“Holy shit!” I exclaim.

“I think that place is bigger than my whole home town!” Tyler just laughs.

“I take it you’ve never been inside it then. It’s full of space and echoes.” We drive right past it, until the road becomes narrower and declines steeply, the Jeep’s tires picking up the rocks and sand from the dirt track and flinging them backwards relentlessly.

Tyler handles the car amazingly well, navigating and steering carefully over the now very thin road until we arrive at a much smaller, yet still expansive, weatherboard cottage. The white framed windows look positively striking against the dark beige paint of the exterior. A picketed wraparound balcony encases the obviously abandoned house.

“We’re here,” Tyler says happily. He parks the car and hops quickly from his seat, jogging around to open my door. I take a step out and stare in awe at the sight before me. The beach stretches out for miles. Immediately ahead, a makeshift fence has been created between the house and the sand from old pieces of hardwood, pickets and thin wire. The sun casts a luminous sparkle against the rising tide...
