“Yes?” I asked, trying to encourage him to speak. He stopped and turned toward me, running his hand over his face while a frustrated growl escaped his mouth.

“Awkwardness doesn’t suite you.” I teased as I pushed on his hard chest just enough to make him sway. “What do you want to say?”

He smiled and looked away, obviously trying to choose his words.

When his eyes returned to mine, his expression turned serious. “I’m really sorry about Saturday night.”

Oh shit. I almost choked on my own tongue; or maybe I had unknowingly swallowed a tennis ball because that’s what it felt like. Was he really going to talk about this? Right here? Now? I might die if this conversation continued. I looked anywhere but directly at him, hoping to develop a quick escape plan – maybe fake a heart attack. He continued, even though I internally begged him to be quiet.

“I really didn’t have any intentions of trying anything … out of line.” He sighed nervously, it was adorable.

My insides instantly softened. This magnificent man was standing in front of me, offering something I’m sure, he rarely offered to anyone, an apology. I tilted my head and smiled, recognizing in this moment, a small-town girl that stood a good eight inches shorter than him, might have a little power over Cale Davis, once again.

“Really?” I linked my arm around his and started walking. “You mean you didn’t intend to sweep into my life like Prince Charming with the intention of stealing my purity?”

He bumped me with his elbow, leaned in and whispered into my ear, “I said that wasn’t my intention, but once I got there and saw you in those sexy sweatpants, well, every guy has his limits.”

He was teasing, his voice low and sensual making my whole body tingle. I glanced up at his lips–remembering how soft they were and quickly looked back down. Power shifted back to the rightful owner.

My Review:

I really have no words for this book and no I don't mean that in a bad way. I actually have way too many words for this book. When I first signed up to read this book, after reading the synopsis I thought I knew what this book was going to be about. But let me tell you it's not really what you think it is. This book is one of those 'Oh my god what is going on?' books. This book really was unpredictable, just when you thought you knew what was going on, author Micki Fredrick's would take you in the complete opposite direction. Chasing Jenna has so many twist and turns. I'm really trying sensor my review here and not give away any spoilers.

The characters in this book are very like able. I will say this and try not to give away too much. There are some characters in this book that you will like and by the end of the book you really shouldn't like. Than there are characters in the book that you may like but you think I really don't want to like them, but you can't help but like them. And I really hope that doesn't confuse anyone, but I think if you read this book you'll understand what I mean.

Let's talk about Jenna for a moment. I really felt for Jenna from the beginning of the story. I could even relate to her a little bit on just wanting to get away from the past and having a fresh start somewhere. Not trying to knock her or anything but for everything she's been through, she's a little naive about other things.

Alright this is where it gets tricky for me because usually I would talk about the guy in a book and say how much I love him. But here's the thing with this book there's 2 main guys in this book and hopefully without giving too much away. One is not what he really seems and the other one is not what I expecting.

Chasing Jenna was an unexpected gripping tale that author Micki Fredrick takes you through. There really is a life lesson to this story and it is 'Trust your instincts' if something or someone doesn't feel right, than it probably isn't. The story had a nice flow to it and was very discriptive. The author pulled me into the story and had me giggle at times, than yelling at the characters, than crying at others.

I give this story 4.75 Stars Out of 5 and would definitely recommend it. I can't wait to see what Micki Fredrick comes up with next!!!!

The empty notebook page stared back at me, making my restlessness worse. I chewed on my pen, another nervous habit of mine, as the instructor blabbed on about study guides and scheduled quizzes. This morning had gone so far off track, I wasn’t sure how to recover. I shifted casually in my seat, acting like I couldn’t get comfortable. Honestly, it was to sneak looks at Ryan. Leaned back into his seat, one arm draped over the back of his chair and the other resting on his leg, his bad boy demeanor on full display.

He was so confident in himself, so comfortable in his own skin. I sighed quietly and shifted in my seat again, glancing over at him. He looked like the perfect student, until I noticed a smirk forming. He ran his tongue over his bottom lip and nipped at the side of it with his teeth. Without looking at me, he reached into his bag and held out a piece of paper. It was his schedule.

Keeping his eyes down, he leaned into me and whispered, “Why don’t you look to see if we have any other classes together? You’re making me self-conscious with all that staring.”

A small gasp slipped from my lips and it felt like the floor dropped out of the room. Not only had I been caught, but he called me out. Somehow this morning just got worse. I reached for the paper but he grabbed my hand. Amusement flared in his blue eyes as he pulled me toward him. He was enjoying my embarrassment a little too much.

“And please, a favor? Stop twirling that pen around in your mouth like that. Unless you have an evil plan to make me, and every other guy in here, fail this class miserably.”

My shoulders slumped as I tried to fight back the humiliation that rolled through me. I looked away immediately and hid my face behind his schedule. He chuckled as he leaned back into his chair, the sound of it warmed my heart.

Excerpt

Who was I when I first fell in love with Bran?
A person who had courage to stare down an unfeasible situation and say, Sure, I’m up for the challenge.
Who was I when Bran threw himself at me like a wounded animal, all claws, abandonment fear, spit, and fang?
A person who accepted that the moon has two sides, light and dark.
Who am I now?
I feel like a lost soul rocking in the corner, fresh out of ideas.
Bran pushes me through the long line until it’s our turn at the passport desk.
“How long do you plan to stay in the United States?” The customs official glances from Bran’s face to his passport photo and back again.
My stomach squirms like a writhing snake. We’ve avoided any discussion about future plans, focused instead on the short term. I had to accept the reality that I couldn’t return to the Peace Corps, even with the medical separation. I was too sick, too shattered. Our discussions about the logistics of leaving Africa were easier to concentrate on than the looming issue of what we were going to do with each other. I treated the topic like an abandoned lot, filled with weeds and rusting cars, a subject to walk past and pretend to ignore.
Now a stranger is forcing the issue.
“Until this one gets better.” Bran cocks his head in my direction.
The woman scoots forward, peers at me with a faint frown. “May I see proof of a return ticket, sir?”
Bran digs out the photocopy of his itinerary. When we bought the tickets, he had to borrow money from his dad. He hasn’t said much, but I know the fact must eat at him. Add another bitter drop to my guilt bucket—soon it’s going to overflow.
“You’re on a temporary tourist visa.” The customs agent flips the passport to a blank page and stamps with obvious relish. “You have three months, starting now.”
Here we go again.
Visa issues.
Ticking clocks.
People imagine international romance is excitement, hot accents, and adventure. They don’t want to hear about the bureaucratic drudgery that threatens to harden the arteries of even the most passionate hearts.
I thought I was going somewhere.
Nope.
I am an idiot Icarus who flew too close to the sun.
Bran leans forward, his lips hover an inch from my ear, his breath a hot caress on my cool skin. “You okay, Captain?”
“Fine.”
“What are you thinking, thinker?”
“I’m just sitting here, a sitter.”
We roll past an American flag overhanging a framed photo of the president. His smile seems smug, as if to say, You really thought you’d get away?
Yes, sir. I kind of did.
“We’re up next.” Bran hands a final customs form to yet another officer who waves us toward big silver doors that open and shut like gnashing teeth. On the other side is California. I can’t shake the disorienting sense we’re heading in the wrong direction.
“Ready?”
Nope.
Bran crossed an ocean for me. I have to find the way out of this black swamp, but I’m manacled to an island of self-doubt, and the tide is rising.

Long Excerpt

Shaun groaned and let his head fall back, and all she could do was cling to the edge of the sink while he gave her exactly what she asked for. Thrusting, withdrawing, and thrusting again in thrilling succession, using the angle of their bodies to ensure he hit all the right spots along the way. The room spun behind her closed eyelids. A heady mix of pheromones, body heat and sex stormed her senses. With frightening speed, he had her trembling at the brink again, panting and shivering and striving for relief from the pressure building inside her. Her pulse pounded, setting off a surprisingly loud echo in her ears.
She nearly jumped out of her skin when Shaun called out, “It’s occupied.”
Holy crap, the pounding in her ears wasn’t her pulse. Somebody was knocking on the restroom door. A voice from the other side said, “Hurry up in there buddy. I gotta get back on the road.”
Shaun didn’t bother with a reply, but drove into her with renewed energy, dragging her agonizingly closer to the edge of control. Her body clenched around him in a fruitless effort to cling to the moment—to a semblance of sanity—but he thrust again and sent sanity hurtling out of reach. The pressure tightened, pulsed there for one heartbeat…two…she whimpered in the face of what waited for her, and a big, calloused hand gently covered her mouth to suppress the noise.
He withdrew and rocked forward again, then froze. His eyes drifted closed, and a groan rumbled from somewhere deep in his chest.
The pounding on the door came again. “What the hell, man?”
“I’m…not…done yet,” he growled, and unleashed a series of quick, jerky thrusts. The sink rattled on its pedestal. Between her legs, the clenching became spasms. Shaun cursed, and then groaned again, a low, long sound vibrating with relief. Hard as she tried to hold it back, her own jagged moan escaped, merging with his, outlasting it, until the high-pitched cry reverberated in the tiny room and slowly subsided.
The voice came again from the other side of the door. “Forget it. I don’t know whether you ought to burn a candle when you’re done, or set fire to the place, but I know I’m not going in. See a doctor, or something.”
Brown eyes opened and stared into hers, and she detected a gleam of humor in their depths. She returned his stare while footsteps retreated across pavement. After a moment, a vehicle door slammed and a big engine rumbled to life. Picturing some disgusted trucker opting for a nice, private outcropping of limestone along the Double A over what he imagined awaited him at the Gas ’n Go had her laughing on her inhale. The result was an inelegant snort.
He grinned down at her. “Admit it, I provide a refreshing break from rose petals and satin sheets.”

My Review:

So it's been at least a year since I last reviewed one of author
Samanthe Beck's books, and it's been a few months since I've read one of her books. I've been loaded down with a lot of books recently to review. So I don't really have to worry about finding something new to review. But sometimes it's nice to go back to a book or an author that you're familiar with, or enjoy reading. And Samanthe Beck is one of those authors I love to read and always enjoy her books.

This book was a very enjoyable read and the characters were very likable right away. There were times I right out laughed at either the situation or what one of the characters said.

Virginia "Ginny" Boca was a very likable heroine right away. She's independent, strong, friendly and cares deeply about what happens in her town. She's also, at least to me, very funny to me. Though she does become a little obsessive about keeping her relationship with Shaun a secret. I understand why she wanted to, but at the same time I felt bad for Shaun.

Shaun's character was a bit of a mystery through the whole story. I mean yes we know he's an ex-SEAL, yes we know he's good looking. Yes it's obvious he's not close to his father. And yes obviously he's got some demons on his shoulders. But other than the obvious attraction between him and Ginny. He's a little bit of a mystery.

This was another good book by Samanthe Beck. The story had nice flow. The book had a little bit of family drama, a little bit of humor, and of course hot steamy romance.

I'm giving this book 4 Out of 5 Stars and would recommend it if you enjoy other books by Samanthe Beck. Or books like hers.
