Blurb
When I was ten, my father indoctrinated me into the family.

A brotherhood who would fight, protect, and give their lives for one another. A club whose ties ran thicker than blood, murkier than the dirt and grime that tainted my soul. Stronger than the bonds that connected me to my own family.

A band of brothers, where loyalty was kept and paid in a currency of blood.

When I was twenty-seven, I betrayed that brotherhood.

I’ve spent every day since running, avoiding paying back that debt.

My name is Daniel Johnson.  I have betrayed everyone I ever loved.

And I’ll betray her too.

This is my story—if you’re screwed up enough to want to read it.

Excerpt #2:
I pick up a cup of cold, stale, black coffee and chug it down. It tastes like shit, so I screw the cap off of a bottle of Jack and chase the black filth with the burn of amber. I set it back on the table while the familiar click of my gun being cocked echoes through my small room. I laugh. Fucking ballsy bitches make me hot.
“Hands in the air, and turn around. Slowly,” the woman says through a scratchy throat. I do as she asks, mostly because I want to keep my spine intact, but also partly because bitches with guns are fucking hot, and I’m hard as a rock just thinking about the way she’s gonna look with a pistol trained on me.
She’s been busy while I was out, rummaging through my drawers and finding a pair of loose tracksuit pants. They’re rolled at the waist, so much that it makes her look pregnant. That, combined with her crazy fuckin’ cat lady hair and the filth covering her body, makes her look like a homeless person.
I smile and clasp my hands behind my head. Her eyes rove over me, taking in my size. She’s checking me for the arsenal I so obviously have stashed away in my fucking worn, faded jeans. She’s not checking me out and dreaming about me taking her rough and hard on my fucking scratched-up dining table, but I still get a fucking boner out of having her eyes roam all over me.
“Pick up the keys, and open the door,” she commands.
“If you run, they’ll shoot you.”
“Pick up the fucking keys.”
I snatch up the keys and lob them at her, hard enough that she has to twist out of the way. She cries out as she does, proving to me that her ribs are definitely injured, maybe even cracked. I lunge at her. Shoving her back against the bed, I land on top of her, warding off her blows with one hand and squeezing her wrist with the other until she drops the gun on the floor.
“Get off me!” she screams.
“You’re not leaving this clubhouse,” I whisper in her ear as she struggles beneath me. “The best you can hope for is to play nice and I might decide to keep you as a house mouse. But if you piss me off, and if you pull on me with my own gun again, your life will be so much worse. You thought the dentist was fucked up? Baby, you haven’t seen anything until you’ve lived inside my fantasies for a day. So if I were you, I’d be really fuckin’ careful about how you play your next move.”

My Review:

This book is dark, gritty, intense and real......

I think that above pretty much describes my feelings on Kick to a tee. To bad that couldn't be my whole review on this book... LOL.... But seriously let's get serious here. I think pretty much either people are going to get and understand Kick or their not going to like it at all.

I have to admit I'm glad Carmen Jenner put the warning at the beginning of the book. There are some very difficult subjects brought up in this book. There were several times I wanted to throw my kindle across the room.

Oh boy my heart just broke for Daniel "Kick" Johnson. He's just been through so much in his life that has left him messed up in a way.

Kayla aka "Indie" also breaks my heart also. After everything she's been through she's still strong and a fighter. She definitely gives back as much as she gets .

This review is kind of difficult for me to write because I really don't want to give away to much. All I can say is this is not your typical sweet MC romance. In fact there's nothing sweet at all about this book. But like I said at the beginning it's "Real".

Throb {Book Review}

Title: Throb

Author: Vi Keeland

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Description:

The rules:

No dating.

No sex outside of the game.

No disclosing the terms of the contract.

Rules were made to be broken, right?

Eight weeks ago I signed a contract.  One that seemed like a good idea at the time.  A handsome bachelor, luxury accommodations, and a chance to win a prize my family desperately needed.  There were some rules though.  Lots of them actually.  Follow the script, no dating, sex, or disclosing the terms of the deal.  After my self-imposed moratorium on men the last year, it wouldn’t be hard to live up to my end of the bargain…so I thought.  Until I realized the deal I’d made was with the devil…and I was in love with his dirty-talking brother.

My Review:

So I think this is the first book in a long long time that I had no idea what to expect from it. I mean honestly the description doesn't really give you an idea what the book is about. At least to me it didn't. I thought it was going to be something completely different than what it was. And I was so happy I got the chance to review this book.

Let me just say I fell in love with Cooper right away. He's sweet, caring, successful, bossy and sinfully smexy, all in one full swoop.

Can I just say I was a little afraid I wasn't going to like Kate's character. But I find myself liking her from the beginning. She's smart and funny, and obviously cares very much about her family for her to sign up to be on a dating show.

And I just want to say quickly I really liked Flynn's character also. He really is a sweetheart to. He was so sweet also, that I had almost wished he was an arsehole.

So I don't want to give away to much of this book away in my review. But Vi Keeland did an awesome job with this plot and the story flowed nicely throughout the whole book. You could feel the attraction between Cooper and Kate right away. And a big bonus to this book it made me giggle (in a good way).

I give this book 4.5 Stars out of 5 and would recommend it. I can't wait to read Flynn's story next. Hopefully he'll finally find his HEA in the next one.

Sunny With A Chance of True Love {Book Review}

Title: Sunny With A Chance of True Love {The Ballad of Ugly Ross}

Author: Jessie Evans

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Description:

A sweet and steamy Lonesome Point Novella by New York Times Bestselling author Jessie Evans
One voice can save a life; one heart can bring you home...

Ross Dyer is ready to give up on love. The sweet, sleepy-eyed cowboy has always danced to the tune of a different drummer, but after being dumped by his latest girlfriend, he's beginning to think he'll spend his life dancing--and sleeping--alone. Add in the impending failure of his newly opened restaurant, due to a smear campaign being waged by his childhood nemesis, and Ross doesn't have much reason to care if the armadillo sees his shadow on Armadillo Day. Whether Lonesome Point has six more weeks of winter or not, his life forecast is looking more foul than fair.

And then she comes home and nothing is the same again.

Fourteen years ago, Elodie Prince was a scared little girl who was neglected at home and bullied at school. In her dark world, the only light was a sweet boy everyone called Ugly Ross, who, to her, was always beautiful. When she returns to Lonesome Point to find her childhood friend has grown into a man as handsome as he is kind, she can't help falling in love.

Elodie and Ross dive head first into Happily Ever After, but find their future threatened by a vicious blast from the past. Because some bullies never grow up, they only grow meaner, and more determined to snuff out the lights of the things that shine.

My Review:

You know when you have an author's you really enjoy reading and you'd love to review one of their books. Well Jessie Evans is one of those authors for me. And I'm so happy I finally got to review one of her books. Or in this case a novella.

This story follows "Ugly Ross" and "Stinky Elodie" who were bullied when they were younger. This story touched a special place with me. Not because I was bullied as a kid. But because my own children have been bullied.

Than skipping ahead 14 years where "Ugly Ross" and "Stinky Elodie" aren't so Ugly or Stinky anymore. When they run into each other again. You can feel the instant attraction between Ross and Elodie.

I instantly fell in love with Ross and Elodie's characters. This story was such a sweet and short story. Jessie Evans really knows how to pull you into a story no matter the length. And after the stories I've been reading lately this was a nice change.
